Start with who will run the server, then compare networks, workflows and total cost. Both offer AI and MCP, so their presence alone does not distinguish the tools.
Is Mixpost cheaper than Postiz?
It depends on your hosting costs and how long you use the software. Mixpost Pro costs $299 upfront, with hosting, upkeep and service usage separate. What does the Mixpost Pro license include?
Pro covers one domain or subdomain, unlimited social accounts, team members and workspaces, plus one year of updates. A perpetual fallback license lets you keep using the covered version; receiving updates after the included period requires renewal. Hosting and third-party services remain separate. Enterprise is the license intended for selling SaaS subscriptions to customers.
Are Mixpost and Postiz both open source?
Mixpost Lite is the free open-source edition. Its paid Pro and Enterprise packages provide source access under commercial restrictions, so do not assume Lite permissions apply to them. Postiz offers an open-source self-hosted application and a paid cloud service. For either self-hosted setup, you handle infrastructure, updates and the provider configuration needed by your networks.
Can I schedule posts through AI with Mixpost or Postiz?
Both offer MCP integrations for compatible AI assistants. Mixpost Pro also has an AI Assistant that requires configuring an AI provider, including a local Ollama option. Postiz offers AI tools and MCP on cloud, with setup requirements for self-hosted use. ViralSocial also supports AI writing and scheduling through MCP. Provider or assistant costs and available actions vary.
Do Mixpost and Postiz support the same social networks?
There is substantial overlap, including Instagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon and Google Business Profile. Postiz also lists Telegram, Discord and Reddit. Mixpost lists Pixelfed, which is outside this 13-network calculator. Mixpost does not list direct Telegram or Discord publishing, so the calculator cannot quote it for that complete selection. Formats vary by network.
